BVest is a Fortran application written in 1991 and routinely used for Breeding value prediction in the Australian Sheep industry at an across flock level until the present time (2008). It is design for routine industry level processing rather than for ad hoc evaluation in that it requires a fairly complicated parameter file be supplied to control the analysis. The distributed package consists of 3 versions of the software BVEST.ZIP contains the Windows implementation, BVESTL32.ZIP contains the Linux 32bit implementation BVESTL64.ZIP contains the Linux 32bit implementation The ZIP files each contain 1 the appropriate executable file 2 an implementation specific Read.Me file with installation notes. 3 BVEST.PDF, the program documentation 4 LMBPLN92.PAR, the original Lambplan parameter file 5 H0010i92.bv a sample data set. Obviously, any user will need to adapt the parameter file to their own requirements. The program has been used to evaluate about 20 traits (counting repeated measures as separate traits) on half a million lambs. It would be suitable for the early stages of developing a national breeding program in a developing country. Support in setting up a BVEST application is available on a consultancy basis.
